FOOD ART....
What is food art?..
- We have to create a special food and its packing. It has to be creative in a way that people will be interested to buy it because of it packing and the food inside.
Brainstorming.. my 3 ideas:
IDEA 1: A Food Calendar.
- This is a calendar that has food behind each day. You will get a different kind of snack/ drink everyday. You don't know what food are you getting so it's a suprise for the contumer, it might be orange juice, chips or cookies.
IDEA 2: Fruit shaped yogurt
- It's boxes of yogurts packaged in the favor of the yogurt. For example, if it's a box of banana yogurt, it will look a banana outside.
IDEA 3: 2 in 1 cup with drink and snacks
- It's a 2 in 1 package. It looks like 2 cups stick together and there are different things in the 2 cups. One of the cups has the drink, you can choose what drinks do u want when u purchase it - coffee or a tea bag. The second cup has some snacks in it, which can be some nuts or cookies.
IDEA 4: Teddy bear with broken leg
- It a teddy bear with food! The teddy bear's leg is broken but there are some snacks in his pocket. The idea behind this is that after you eat the snacks, you will get well soon! There will be a little bag infront of the teddy bear, there are about 5 snacks in it. The costumers don't know what's in the bag so it will be a supirse and a gift from the teddy bear!
Our group's idea:
- We are planning to make a chocolate dinosaur fossil cake.
- Mood: mysterious
- Cake's base: chocolate cake with chocolate icing
- On top of the cake: White dinosaur fossils
- Name of the food/ cake: The Dino Cake
Designing the packaging:
- The packaging is liike a treausure box.
- Idea behind it: The setting is in a forest type like of envioronment, people find this unexpectingly
- A gift from someone mysterise
- Color of the packaging: Gold and Sliver, with ribbons around it.
- We chose gold and sliver as our final decision because we want it to look luxurious and glamours so people will be intrested in our food and packaging.
- On top of the packaging: A map with a route to find this treasure box

Day 1: 27/11 (Fri): bring in materials & start building the box

Day 2: 30/11 (Mon): Start painting and wait for it to dry
Day3: 1/12 (Wed): Touch ups with the box and plan about materials to make the cake, place, time and how to present the cake and video's idea

- Saturday (6/12)
3. Editing: Sunday (6/12)
- Since we didn't like how our first packaging turned out, we made a new one on Saturday before we started cooking. We went to bought some material and food before we cook in Shatin.

Outside Influences:
1. Alice in the Wonderland
- This is the what makes us start thinking of the advertising's video idea - a treasure box.
2. Indiana Jones
- The idea that it's adventurous and we found our way to the treasures (the dino cake. Our target audiences are kids and teenagers. The main theme of this project is fun, adventurous and making people happy.
3. Adventurous maps from Fiji
- While i was thinking about the idea that's adventurous, it reminded me while i went to fiji for adventure week, I saw this kind of fiji treasure maps that's made of cloth. That's the reason why we included the map and the route on the box.
4. Hayley's dog
- While we were baking, Hayley's dog always come to us and try to give us something or get our attention. Dogs are very loyal and they will always tell their masters everything. Therefore we think of the idea that Hayley's dog lead Ho-Ming and me to find the treasure box.

Overall reflection about final product, group work..etc.:
- Overall I think our group did a great job. The food tastes good, the cake turns out like what we expected to make too which matches our group's idea of the fossil cake.
- I think everyone in our group did equal work for this project. There wasn't any aguements during the process too, we all discuess before we start doing something or changing anything. For paperation, we all go to the supermarket to get the food together. While we making the packaging, everyone helped to make different parts such as painting, putting on the ribbons, drawing, gluing..etc. For presentations, we brought up the idea that we found the cake in the forest. We all take turns to film different parts such as cooking, and the advertising video.
Advertising video:
Settings: A forest, very gloomy, humid and mysterious place
Place: Hayley's house graden
Story: A dog lead his masters to treasure box within the forest. What they didn't know was the dog has found a treasure box deep within the forest. Once they opened the box, inside they saw was a dinosaur fossil.
Roles:
Ho-Ming: Acting as the dog's master
Vivian: Acting as the dog's master
