John Galliano:
1. His designs are always designed in a way no one would wear. Why do you think he designs this way?
- I think he designed it in this way because he wanted people to wear them on special occasions and make it memorable. Since he designed it in a way which 'no one would wear', I don't think people will wear it on causel days, they will usually wear it on special occasions. I think he wants to use this opportunity to make people remember the piece of clothing, and make it has a meaning behind it. For example, special occasions can include birthdays, weddings, anniversaries..etc. When people look at that dress they will remember the night or the special meaning behind the clothing. It shows the power of a piece of clothing which it can include memeories and history in it. I think this is the reason why he designed it in a way no one would wear and how he makes it clothings stand out.
''Dressing up. People just don't do it anymore. We have to change that.''
2. Who do you think the ''people'' is? Do you think he is talking about the modern designers who fear making extraordinary designs? Explain your thoughts.
- I think he is talking about both celebraties/ normal people and modern designers. Most of the fashion trends lately are really simple, for example lace up, demin..etc. There isn't really any super stand out trends. Dressing up now just mean wearing the what's the trend right now, which not much can really tell that people are actually ''dressing up''. I think ''dressing up'' in John Galliano's perspective it means georgous makeup, really fancy dresses and shoes. Mordern day design are mainly surrounded with the most basic ideas such as strips or plain color clothing. For example, Alexander Wang's clothing line has got a bit of attention in the fashion industry lately, I love his designs as well. However, his line T-by Alexander Wang, most of the designs are just using strips with different combinations of colors, or plain t-shirt materials into dresses and tops. Valentino's 2015 summer and fall collection's main focus was on the strip patterns on their shoes, bags and dresses besides their classic studs collection. Although this is only a small portion of designs that I am talking about, it can reflect the designers aren't able to design out of the box, they are only sticking with really simple design elements. Althought there are different styles of fashion, John Galliano's idea of ''dressing up'' is not just puting all the famous brand name clothings together, but it has to be special, out standing, fancy and special.
