Interior Design
My role: A designer
Ms Hipi’s class -An art classroom that reflects the anti-establishment, no-slave-to-the-office mentality of the teacher. She has specifically requested no chairs or desks in her room, but still be able to sit and work all the while.
Materials: wood, carpet
Floor Plan:

3D Design:

Why did I design it this way?
Overall theme/ mood:
I want the color chocies and theme be clean and neat in this design so that it can provide more spaces and imaginations for the students that will be working in this classroom. The wood floor was what the clinet required therefore I chose that. I also think that it matches the overall white color theme in the classroom as well. For all the furnitures, I chose mainly white to make it look more clean, but I also added some pop of color or patterns on some of them, for example, the ''box shelf'' has a pop of red and the carpet has some patterns on it. This helps it to keep it neat but not too ordinary.
Since it is an art classroom, it will require stroage space and shelfs for its art equipments. Therefore I put 1 shelf that can put a lot of art equipments and there isn't any doors for it so they can see the colors of the paint, brushes, or paper easily. There are also different levels so that they can organize different kinds of equipments. I added a ''box shelf'' beside it which makes it more stylish and there's some red on the shelf which adds more colors to the room. This ''box shelf'' is designed to displace some of the student's artwork or to create more storage for art equipments.
Lighting is also important for students to draw, therefore I added a big window on the wall so that there can be more sunlight in the classroom, I also added extended lamp so that when there's not much sunlight the lamp can still provide enough light. The reason why I chose an extended lamp is because we can move it around easily and it can ''extend'' the light to more spots in the classroom. When we don't need the lamp to draw, it can also be used as a lighting for the artworks displaced on the wall.
On the right side of the wall, I added a few artworks and painting so that students can be inspired from it. Teacher can also add different artworks from students under the paintings. The side of the wall is like an inspirational wall, it is meant for people to get inspired and learn from it. Therefore students and teachers can both add different inspirational quotes from artists, or new kinds of paintings, new artists (Just like the artist moments that we did in class).
In the middle of the classroom, it will be the main space that the students will working and spending time at. First I added a carpet since that is what the client required, and since she doesn't want any chairs or tables, the carpet will be the main space that the students will be sitting and working at. I love this idea because students can all sit together and disscuss about their ideas and get inspirations when they do their artworks. There's a soft kinda of big pillow on the carpet. (Yes it is a soft chair in the design because the app doesn't have any big pillows) This pillow is for the teacher and students to sometimes sit or maybe draw. I think this idea is able to let the students to be more creative since they are not all set into ordinary chairs and table kind of classroom settings. They can sit freely on the carpet, use walls, the floor or pillows as tables to draw on.
What I learnt from this unit:
- I really like this unit and it makes me think from both the designer and the user's perspective. Since we are designing spaces that is suitiable for the user, therefore everything that we design or put into the space should have a purpose that suits the user. Especially in HK, rooms and spaces are very limited and we really need to make everything useful and serves a purpose. The best way to choos a furniture is that it has multipul purposes so that we can save up more spaces, example of these kind of furnitures include sofa chairs, extended tables..etc.
