Tetsuya ishida reflection:
This artist combines different visual elements to create messages. What do you think this one means?
- I think he's trying to use different visual elements to catch attention from different people. The elements/ objects that he chose to use are always odd or weird, it makes people think more deep about the meaning behind it. It might want to tell people a message or make people think about some ideas such as slavery..etc. The good thing about these mysterious artworks is that everyone can always have different ideas from it so there won't always only has 1 fixed idea like traditional artworks. It's easier to catch people's attention and talk about his artwork so more people can understand more about his presective about the mordern japanese society.
The mood is often dark, why do you think that is?
- Colors in artworks are very important because it represents different kind of tone and feelings. Usually black represents death, gray represents future, self-control, security, innovation, netrality and blue represents wisdom, seriousness. Brighter colors such as red, orange and yellow usually represents joy, excitment and friendship..etc. In his artworks, the mood is often dark maybe because he's very sad and depress about the future, it can also reflects the artist's personality from the colors that he chose. The artist might be very depress and has not much hope for the future. The colors are often in gray and blue tones and he seldom use bright colors. Since his topics are usually related to socal and academic educational systems and mordern Japanese lifes, from my prespective I think it might tell us that he has no hope and the society is dying and he's very serious about it. He might want to have some windom on the future that's why he added a blue tone on the artwork. In fact, his parents has also asked him about his art style and the dark tones in his artworks, his mother was once upset as she thinks of one the artwork is too dark but he told her that he communicate better through his paintings he was at his happiest. Later on his parents also accpet his artwork as part of himself and particularly his father was able to appreciate his works even they still don't understand the artworks.

If his works work for a psychological analysis, how would you interpret these?
- I would think the artwork reflects his presonality and his thoughts. Due to the dark tones and colors, he might be very depress and sad deep inside. Some might say it's just the way that he's trying to show the artwork's meaning but not himself. But he said he was the happiest when he draw these artworks because he was able to show and communicate with people better as mentioned before, therefore there's a very big chance that he's very depress and has not much hope for himself. He might want his parents and his loved ones to notice that from the artworks too. He's happy because he can finally tell others how he really feels and express his feelings.
