Process work

This is the first time where we are trying to draw something and spray paint on it. I drew a cupcake for my first experiment.

i also drew a strawberry and a box of milk but i didn't have enough time to spray paint it. Also, for this 2 drawings, I learnt that i need to have bridges to connect the dots/ things inside or else after cutting it it will fall apart and not connected.

After cutting out the cupcake, I tried to spray paint it in 2 different colors. We need to use a tape to fix where the cupcake is or else it will move around and damage the shape and the color won't be in the place where it should be.

Then i tried experimenting with other colors. I found out that we need to wait for a bit longer before removing the paper or else the paint won't be able to be dry enough and the paint will move around. The left one was a bad example because i haven't waited long enough and the top of the cupcake's paint moved.  The second one is a bit better.

Also, I learnt that we don't need too many paint and do not spray it too close to the pciture or else it won't look good.

This is another one that i tried to spray it with different colors. I think this is better than the pervious ones. I also liked how the middle part has a bit of orange color which looks like it it slowly transforming into the yellow color.

This is where we have cut out different shape and edges to spray paint it. I cut a half heart shape, a square and different shaped edges.

I tried to spray paint this first one with different colors and tried to make it look like it is transforming into the next color. But i didn't have enough time to try to experiment with the shapes that i have to create different images.

After we are done drawing the design on the plastic, we decided to cut the outer part, inner part and the words separate since we want to do different colors and layers.

This is our work after 2 layers of spray paint. The first layer we used blue to spray the outer part. We also used some black tape to stick the plastic to the paper so that the color won't move around. The second layer we spray paint the bear with yellow but it wasn't dry enough therefore the color wasn't very even.

From last class, we only finished up to 2 layers of spray paint, we are still missing the words on the final logo. We also have to observe what do we need to fix or it the paint mixed together or else we need to re-do it.

1. If you had to create a similar portrait like this, who would you display on the wall and why?

- I would display someone who's influential or helped the country such as the president, big company's director..etc. In this case I would like to have Steve Jobs displayed on the wall because he's a very influential person who craeted Apple and everyone reconizge him. Also, we can remind people that Steve Jobs contributed a lot to our the technological industry and how he tried and experinment a lot of time to sucess. While being an artwork, it can also remind people about Steve Jobs's contribution and as an inspirational person.

2. Where would you want to place it?

- I would want to place it in a tall building in public. This can show how important he is to the the techonology industry and more people can see it and use him as an inspiration. Since nowadays in Hong Kong it's getting very busy and people are working non-stop. Therefore i think we will need some new inspirations for people to try new things and remind them we always need to experience to sucess. Arts in public can also change the atmosphere and make it more relaxing and comfortable.

3. Other than black and white what color would you use? Why?

- I would use bright neon colors such as red/pink, yellow, orange and green to catch people's attention. Neon colors are the most eye-catching and it has the effect to brighten up the mood and atmosphere which it's usually used at night. By displaying neon colors artwork during daytime can make people feel fresh and inspirational. This can make a big comparsion between the black and white colors that have been used before. The colors can also show how passion and how Steve Jobs led us to the new stage of technological advancement.
