freya jobbins
1. Her art is all about using old toys to create new things, why do you think she does this?
- I think she wants to tell people that not only special materials can create art. Everything can be art if we are being creative. It also represents the idea that old things can always transform into new things. A lot of people misunderstand the concept that art needs to be created by really grand, new or cool materials to stand out, but they never think of using old materials to become something cool. Therefore I think she's trying to encourage people to think out of the box and pay more attention to little things in daily life. This also reminded me of recycle and re-use different materials and give them new looks. From the scuplture on the right, Freya Jobbins used green and blue which inspired me to think of the idea to recycle as well. The blue on the scuplture makes me relate to nature such as the sea. This can also inspire people to transform other things into new stuff but not oly art, for example, using everyday materials, old things and transform it into decorations, art displaces, new toys or re-useable things.
2. Do you think using the same materials changes the idea or stay the same?
- I think it wouldn't change the idea since it is still transforming old things into new things. As long as it is making from old things to new things, it can still represent the idea that ''art can be created by everything''. It still has the power to encouage the idea of recycling things and re-use them.
3. Draw a rectangle below and sketch a sculpture portrait you would do with a random material.
- I would make a teddy bear out of crayons. Since people usually thinks that teddy bears should be in soft materials, I want to change that idea, similar to Freya Jobbins that she transform old things into new things. Teddy bear and crayons are something that kids would have with them when they grow up just like toys. I want to use crayons to symobolize how the kids draw their future and things that they love and how it builts up to a teddy bear.
